Sati- Khasi film released

SHILLONG, APR 8: A Khasi movie – ‘Sati’ meaning ‘the ring’ was released by the Shillong Press Club general secretary Powel Sohkhlet at a function in the city on Wednesday. Sati, a story about the love of two people and the challenges faced by them is a movie produced by the ER production and directed by Edward Pakma.

Earlier, a movie ‘Aiti’ – ‘to surrender’, the first ever movie produced by the ER production had also won the award of the Best Film at the 1st Khasi Film Award.    

Speaking during the release, Sohkhlet said, “Films are also one of the most powerful media to disseminate information to the people especially the rural populace of the state.”

Sohklet felt that films should also be a medium to showcase the challenges faced by the society and along with them give valuables message which can change the mindset of the people and also bring solution to problems.

Stating that film making in Meghalaya is still at its infant stage, Sohkhlet however said, “But this should not be a reason for the film makers to feel discouraged but take them as stepping stone towards perfection.”

According to Sohklet, the state has so much of potentials when it comes to talents and setting up of schools and training institutes for performing arts is needed for grooming the inborn talents of the youths in this field.

Film director Edward Pakma said that the main challenge before the local film makers is the problem of piracy. He said, “This problem of piracy makes it difficult for us to even think of being able to come up with a new movie besides the tough competition.” He informed that the problem is also genuine in Meghalaya because of lack of awareness on the part of the people.

Pakma said though piracy is illegal but the law enforcers are facing problem in tackling the problem. He emphasized the need to create awareness on the illegality of piracy and urged the people to refrain from such practice in order to help promote the film making industry in the state.

The film which was produced at a budget of approximately Rs 5 lakh will be screened at Bijou Cinema.- By Our Reporter .
