SHILLONG, APR 8: April 8 is a historic moment not only for Shillong Chamber Choir –SCC- but also for Meghalaya as the SCC founder Neil Herbert Nongkynrih was awarded the Padma Shri award for promoting music, art and culture of the country.

The award was presented by the president Pranab Mukherjee to Nongkynrih at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday.

As the founder of the acclaimed Shillong Chamber Choir and promoting his music both nationally and internationally, the union government gave due recognition to Nongkynrih by conferring the Padma Shri award.

Meghalaya has always been known as the capital of music and the award to Nongkynrih just confirmed this unofficial status. His acquaintances said that Nongkynrih accepted the award with greatest humility and thanked his family, friends, and supporters from the northeast states and also his fans from all over the country.
