Security , observers arrive

SHILLONG, MAR 21: Two companies of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) – the armed border forces arrived in the state to assist the state government in the smooth conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Shillong Parliamentary seat slated on April 9.

“The two companies of SSB deputed for East Khasi hills district have arrived,” East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal told reporters.  He informed that they will be deployed in different parts of the district to ensure that law and order is maintained during the elections.

Meanwhile, three observers including expenditure observer have been deputed to oversee the electioneering process in the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

N Shirpa, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, has been appointed as an expenditure observer for Shillong seat besides two general observers – Neelam Gupta and Sashi Bala Gulati, Goyal informed.

While Gupta has arrived in the state on Friday, Gulati will be arriving on Saturday and they will oversee the election preparedness and other issues including violation of model code of conduct in the 36 Assembly segments under Shillong Lok Sabha seat.- By Our Reporter
