Shangpliang opens assessment camp

SHILLONG, JULY 14: HM Shangpliang, Secretary and Director of Social Welfare inaugurated the Assessment Camp for Persons with Disabilities at  Nongdom Mawria Anganwadi  Centre at Nongdom village under Mawsynram Community and Rural Development Block in East Khasi district on Tuesday.

The progarmme was organized by the Social Welfare department in collaboration with the State Resource Centre, Civil Hospital, Shillong. The programme was also attended by BB Nalle, Programme Manager Services, J. Umdor, DPO, SM Bang, CDPO, Mawsynram,  D Nongsiej and people from Sawsymper areas.

The assessment camp for persons with disabilities was conducted by a team of doctors and para- medical staff from the State Resource Centre, Civil Hospital Shillong. The camp was attended by more than 102 persons from Nongdom Mawria, Mawhiang, Pongkung, Kma Wanrum, Mawtangor, Mawlyngkut, Laitmawsiang, Mawteibah, Mawlynno, Weiloi, Langsymphut, Domsohpian, Lad Krem Mawphyllun, Wah Mawpat, Kper Masi, Mawspong and Nongriwah villages.

Speaking as a chief guest, Shangpliang said that the Assessment Camp for persons with disabilities is part of the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance (CMSA) Scheme for widows and persons with disabilities launched by Dr. Mukul Sangma, chief minister in the year 2012.

Shangpliang informed that the main objectives of the Social Assistance Scheme is to provide social security by giving financial assistance in the form of pensioning to widows, infirm and disabled persons belonging to marginalized sections of society.

Shangpliang urged the people of the Sawsymper areas to take the opportunity of the camp by assessing themselves especially the disabled persons in getting disability certificate by assessing themselves at the camps to enable them to avail different benefits provided in the scheme.

Shangpliang stated that to improve health and nutritional status of young children from 0-6 years and to provide nutrition for children and women, 22 additional Anganwadi  Centers for Mawsynram Community and Rural Development Block has been sanctioned by the government during the year 2014-2015 including 7 centers for Sawsymper areas

Earlier, Nalle, Programme Manager Services, in her speech highlighted the different schemes and programme implemented by the Social Welfare Department. Other highlights of the day include distribution of Z-Card to Anganwadi  workers by the chief guest, song and dances presented by Anganwadi  workers and Seng Khasi Sawsymper.- By Our Reporter
