Silviana crowned ‘The Little Champ’

SHILLONG, OCT 5: Silviana L Mawlong was crowned the title of the first Dance Meghalaya Dance – Little Champ, at the grand finale held at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Saturday.

Thirteen-year-old Sylviana hailing from Mairang village in West Khasi hills district won the hearts of 91, 100 people who voted and supported for her pure and amazing dancing talents.

The trophy and cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs was presented by the Chairman of Tranport department Hopeful Bamon to Sylviana, after she was adjudged the first DMD-Little Champ.

While the first runner up was bagged by Heinidaman T Dkhar (15) from Raliang village in West Jaintia Hills district along with Rs 50,000 cash prize, Sophia Lapang (15) from Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district was crowned the second runner up with Rs 20, 000 cash prize.

The fourth and the fifth position was bagged by six year old Darihun Lapang from Umsning village, Ri Bhoi and Effylicia Lyngkhoi (9) from Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district taking away Rs 15, 000 and Rs 10, 000 cash award along with trophies.

The five winners of the competition were amongst the 11 finalists who were selected out of the top 30 and 20 competitions held on August and September.

Organized by the Rising Star Hunt Society (RSHS) in collaboration with the All Jaintia Dancer Association (AJDA), the DMD-Little Champ saw participation of over 200 young talented youths coming from the eleven districts of the state during auditions which started four months ago.

Silviana, also a student of Domkor RC UP School, Mairang said, “I am elated to be crowned the first DMD-Little Champ which is a state level competition. “ She said, “Competing only at the state level is not enough but I have set my goal to prepare myself for competing at the national level arena.”

Mawlong’s father Bobby Basaiawmoit expressed happiness over his daughter achievement and thanked the organizers for providing such a platform for young talented children from the state.

“Her victory is not only for us to be happy but the people who have supported her through their votes, we thanked them all,” Basaiawmoit said while informing that the village dorbar of Mairang is also preparing a special programme to felicitate his daughter for her victory.

During the grand finale, the crowd was mesmerized by the dance performance by the judges and all the contestants.- By Our Reporter
