SHILLONG, JULY 27: Meghalaya government has constituted a 16-member State Level High Powered Steering Committee for implementation of the Centre’s Smart Cities Mission in Meghalaya.

The committee constituted and approved on July 24 will be headed by the Chief Secretary PBO Warjri, while officials from the different departments including Finance, Urban Affairs, PHE, PWD, MeECL and others are members.

“The State Level High Powered Steering Committee for Smart Cities Mission has been constituted by the government,” Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters on Monday.

She informed that the committee has been tasked with the responsibilities to provide guidance to the mission and provide state level platform for exchange of ideas pertaining to the development of Smart Cities.

“The committee will also oversee the process of the first state intra-state competition on the basis of state – 1 criteria and review the SCPs and sent to the Ministry of Urban development for participation in the challenge,” Lyngdoh said.

According to her, the committee is going to sit soon to work on the matter.

She informed that eligible towns will be asked to participate for development of the smart city project.

“These towns are being notified in the notification of towns by our department,” Lyngdoh said while informing the eligible towns are those from the different eleven districts of the State.

According to her, these towns have to plan for themselves and it is going to be interesting.- By Our Reporter
