SHILLONG, JAN 6:  The BJP led NDA 11 coalition government at the centre criticized the Congress led MUA 11 coalition led by Mukul Sangma accusing it for failing to utilize the collected  labour cess of Rs 80 crore for the welfare and upliftment of construction workers in the state.

“The state government has collected labour cess of Rs 80.42 crore but was able to spent only Rs 90 lakh,” Union Minister of State Independent Charge Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya charged during a regional conference of labour ministers held yesterday.

Dattatreya was in the state to lay the foundation stone for the construction of the new Regional Labour Institute for the North East region at Shillong here on Friday.

The union minister has also directed the state government to ensure that the amount collected is fully utilized for the purpose of the welfare of the construction workers and not to divert it for other purposes.

He informed that he has directed the state government to see that all the Rs 80 crore amount should go for the purposes of the welfare, education, scholarship and employment of the construction workers.
