TURA, AUG 21: SWAT commandos on Thursday gun down three GNLA militants in an early morning during the “Hill Storm” operation at Arbela range, near Chinabat in East Garo Hills.

During the exchange fire that lasted for about 40 minutes, a civilian sustained minor injury on his left shoulder. He has been identified as Ronendro Marak. “A stray bullet hit him, while he was at home. He has been given first aid and his condition is said to be normal”, said GHP Raju, IGP (operation).

East Garo hills SP Davies Marak said, “Three militants were killed in the operation. Of which, two are suspected to be from GNLA and one is suspected to be from ULFA”.

The GNLA militants have been identified as Karamchan and Werang. The ULFA militant is yet to be identified.

Police recovered a SLR two pistols, incriminating documents, SIM cards, mobiles, and other personnel belongings from the spot. Several militant militants were also injured during the operation but managed to escape taking advantage of the hilly terrain.- From Our Correspondent
