Two deaths, one injured in landslide

SHILLONG, SEPT 23: Two persons identified as Meenu Thapa and Karuna Shreshth died when incessant rains triggered a collapse of the retaining wall at Lama Villa on Wednesday even as a five years old boy was rushed to NEIGRIMS with serious injuries.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed that the two ladies who died were 55 and 25 years old. He said the incident took on Wednesday and a five years old boy was also injured seriously and have been taken to NEIGRIMS for treatment.

Shillong is experiencing incessant rains for the last few days. Garo hills have been particularly hit as some of the areas have reportedly flooded.

Last years, Meghalaya saw a record 40 people dying because of landslide and flood in Garo and Khasi hills areas.- By Our Reporter
